I asked some questions to find out where our uniforms were from. The
shirts are made in Haiti. They are then sent through the Port of Miami.
They then go to Eden, North Carolina for distribution. Next, they go to
a company in Virginia called Atlantic Coast Cotton for redistribution.
Then they go to Silver Spring, where the logo is printed by a company
called Blue Chip. And finally they end up at CCHS – where we wear them!
I think that this was a good experience because I wouldn’t have known
all of this if I didn’t attend this CAP project unlike my other
classmates. As a student, I have not gotten to decide where our school
uniforms come from. I think that the next company that we order our
uniforms from should be sweatshop free. In the end, my school answered
my questions even though they moved a little slow. If you attend a
school that wears uniform, ask your principal if he or she knows where
they are made. Ask them how much would the uniforms cost to be
sweatshop free? Is it worth it? I think that it is. There are enough
companies that sell uniforms that are not made in sweatshops.
Overall, I had a good experience and I will tell my friends about what I learned.
